Belgium Catch Up: Henry Wins Trophy, Olayinka Loses, Simon Nets Winner, Uche Goes 90
Catch up on how Belgian-based Nigerian talents fared for their respective teams on Saturday, July 22.
Nigeria international striker Henry Onyekuru has won his first trophy as an Anderlecht player. He came on after 65 minutes in their 2-1 win over First Division A side Zulte-Waregem in the final of the Belgium Super Cup.
Gent loanee and former Dream Team VI invitee Peter Olayinka started and logged 90 minutes, while the young striker Aliko Bala watched proceedings from the bench. Olayinka received a yellow card in the 35th minute.
Super Eagles winger Moses Simon is not bothered by speculation linking him with an exit from Gent this summer. He scored the game-winner for the Limburg club after 72 minutes in their 3-2 win over KFCO Beerschot-Wilrijk in a pre-season friendly.
Simon started the game, teammates Anderson Esiti and Samuel Kalu were named among the substitutes.
Watford loanee Uche Agbo put in a full shift in Standard Liege’s 1-1 draw with Metz.
